All smokeless fire pits will smoke until they get up to temperature. Once the fire is up and going the unique airflow system will draw air from the bottom of the pit and re-ignite itself around the rim. Resulting in more efficient use of the firewood and re-ignition of smoke into heat.
Remember smoke is just unburnt fuel, if you have the fire hot enough or in a smokeless designed fire pit you will be able to enjoy a smoke-free seating area around it.
